The TV Drama Screenwriter – craft and career – a UK Perspective
Exclusive Masterclass
As a side event to the programme, we will present a special masterclass addressing the theme “Championing the Writer”.
The Masterclass will be a 4 hour session with Jessica Loveland, BBC head of new writing; Philip Shelley, leader of the Channel 4 4Screenwriting course; and writers and producers Paul and Michael Clarkson aka The Clarkson Twins.
Jessica Loveland will talk about UK TV drama – the successful shows, formats and writers from the last few years in the UK and the lessons that can be drawn from these writers and shows.
Philip Shelley will look back over the 13 year history of the Channel 4 course – the writers who have emerged through the scheme, the ‘calling card’ scripts that have opened doors for them; and what he has learnt about writers and how to break into and then sustain a career in the world of TV drama screenwriting.
As special guest stars, The Clarkson Twins will join the masterclass. Paul and Michael Clarkson have worked as producers and writers on titles like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Wheel of Time as well as His Dark Materials, and they will contribute to the masterclass with their experience and story of becoming writers.
Following the masterclass, we are hosting a meet’n’greet for all the participants, so don’t be too quick to leave. There will be an open bar, so you can mingle with everyone in relaxed surroundings.
The masterclass and the meet’n’greet are created in collaboration with Danish Writers Guild.
