Future of Soundtracks – How to Hook Gen Z

Gen Z lives in a constant soundtrack. They consume music faster and in more fragmented ways than any generation before. One moment they’re diving into a 15-second viral TikTok audio, the next they’re streaming a 90s anthem as if it just dropped yesterday. They crave authenticity, cultural relevance, and emotional hits that feel like they’re speaking directly to them.

In this session, London-based music supervisors Jenn Egan and Hayley Smith will reveal how to choose music that truly resonates with young audiences by understanding their listening habits, cultural references, and emotional triggers.

Jenn is known for Conclave (2024), Fountain of Youth (2025), and Am I Being Unreasonable? (2022), while Hayley has brought her expertise to shows like ITV’s Love Island, where music choices set the tone for millions of viewers.

They’ll take us inside their creative process, sharing practical tips on crafting soundtracks that feel authentic, reflect youth culture, and stand out in a crowded content landscape. From avoiding tired clichés to tapping into the discovery shortcuts and nostalgic revivals driving today’s trends, Jenn and Hayley will show how the right music can elevate storytelling across film, series, games, and commercials – and help you forge a lasting connection with the next generation.

This session will be in English.
