Thomas Vinterberg is one of Denmark’s greatest, most award-winning, and internationally acclaimed directors.
Most recently, Vinterberg made history when he became the first Danish filmmaker ever to receive an OSCAR® nomination for Best Director for his film “Another Round” (2020). In addition, Vinterberg won an OSCAR®, a BAFTA, a CÉSAR and 4 European Film Awards for the blockbuster drama, which was also part of the Official Selection at Festival de Cannes, Toronto International Film Festival, and the main competition at San Sebastian IFF.
Prior to that, Vinterberg has had great success with his feature film “The Commune” (2016), which was selected for the main competition in Berlin. In 2012, Thomas Vinterberg also garnered international acclaim with both an OSCAR® and GOLDEN GLOBE® nomination for the Danish drama “The Hunt” (2013).
Vinterberg made his international breakthrough in 1998 with “The Celebration” – the first film of the Dogme95 movement, which won a host of international prizes, including the Jury Prize in Cannes.
In 2008, Thomas Vinterberg and Lars von Trier, along with their ‘Dogme brothers’ Kristian Levring and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, received the EFA Award for Outstanding European Achievement in World Cinema. In addition to films, Vinterberg has written and directed critically acclaimed plays for the national stage at Austria’s Burgtheater Wien, which play to sold-out audiences around Europe. He has also directed music videos for bands such as Blur and Metallica.
