Top Trends in Emerging Technology

This year, MIT Technology Review is celebrating 125 years of covering emerging technologies. What will the next 125 years bring? It’s impossible to know, but through careful research and thoughtful reporting, we can begin to sketch out what new advances could be possible in the near future.

In this keynote Amy Nordrum will give an overview of current research directions and technology trends the newsroom is following most closely. Her talk will span recent developments across climate tech, computing, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.

She’ll also describe the newsroom’s annual exercise to spot major breakthroughs across the emerging tech landscape, and share how they temper hype and evaluate these critical moments. And she’ll offer insights and predictions gleaned from the team’s anniversary coverage, which explores big open questions in science and technology that could drive (or stifle) progress in the next 125 years.

No matter what industry you work in, you’ll leave this keynote with a strong sense of which areas of emerging technology to watch today, and a better idea of where we’re all headed.
